Choosing Your First Surfboard!

When you are choosing your very first surfboard, you gotta go bigger and thicker...

Yes, its very tempting to buy a cool small surfboard but you really are not there yet...

For now, get a board that will give flotation and allow for easy paddling.

A good average size board for a beginning surfer would be at least 7 feet long and 19 inches wide and at least 2-3 inches thick.

This all depends on your size, so be sure you can comfortably carry and wield the surfboard in the water. Just make sure your surfboard stands at least a foot taller than you.

Generally, a 120 pound surfer should look for a 6 feet 10 inch board while a 140 pounder might look towards a 7 feet 2 inch board. At 170 pounds, try to go above 7 feet 6 inches.

For the first season or two, you will not be worrying about turning, so the shape, tail, and fin type will not matter at this point.

The bottom line is to get a big, thick board that is affordable-forget about the thousand dollar custom made boards, or those small short boards-get something that will help you progress into a real surfer!

The board we recommend for beginners are minimals, longboardshybrids, and foam boards. There are plenty of choices of colors, graphic, sizes at surf321.com
